dentist-and-patient

Dental Crown is an industry standard way of restoring and enhancing teeth that are partially or fully damaged. Crowing can also be used in place of missing teeth. If you have been in an accident or have damaged your teeth in any way, dental crowning is usually your go-to solution.

The major purpose of a crown is to save your original tooth if it is in healthy enough condition. It goes without saying that the need for crowning is definitely dependent on the condition of your teeth.

What is Dental Crown used for?

The primary purpose of the crown if to help you protect your original teeth as much as possible. Restoring and enhancing teeth that are damaged is what crowing is done for. In the case of missing teeth, dental crowning is the ideal solution.

Timescale :

3-5 Days is an estimated time frame (depending on damage)

What are Crowns?

The crown of a tooth is that part which is visible in the mouth. An artificial crown is used to protect and restore a broken, weakend or heavily filled tooth. They are also used to improve the appearance of discoloured teeth.

Crowns are made of many different materials including metals and ceramics.

What do we do in case of any teeth damage cases?

  • We start with shaping your uneven or damaged teeth to easily fit the crown. You do not have to worry about any abnormalities as the teeth with look exactly like your original tooth. It will have the same size and shape.
  • Depending on the amount of damage the preparation time of the crown varies from patient to patient.
  • In case of a dead tooth, where there is very little left of your original tooth it may have to be root-fitted first. This is also called ‘removing the nerve’. The crown is sometimes held in place by a peg or post in the root canal in the case of heavy damages.
  • We use a soft mouldable material to make an exact impression of what remains of the tooth that is to be crowned and the adjacent teeth.
  • Our expert dental technician uses impressions of your teeth to make the crown. This is to make sure there are no abnormalities.
  • Before the process is started a temporary crown made of plastic or metal is usually put over the tooth until the permanent crown is made. You can chew on a temporary crown but it won’t be as strong as the finished one.
  • After the crown is fitted, we may need to make small adjustments to make sure you can bite and chew comfortably. The crown is tried on properly tested and then cemented into place.

What are the benefits of teeth crown?

A crown is a strong replacement that will look and feel exactly like a natural tooth. The colour and shape can be matched to your original teeth.

Depending on the strength of the tooth left on which the crown is put, a crown can last for several years. You have to just ensure that you look after your teeth, take proper care and not damage the crown in any way.

Crown teeth can also improve your appearance.

Types of Crown Teeth

Before any type of crown is suggested our dental professionals will have a thorough look at the damage. They will recommend the best type of crown for your dental restoration needs based on the chewing placement and structure of the tooth or implant that requires protection.

There are three types of crowns. Each type has its own characteristics and qualities:

1. Zirconium Crowns :

This is one of the most prefered and most recommended types of teeth crowns in recent times. Individuals who want aesthetically appealing artificial teeth for themselves prefer zirconia crowns. Patients often have curiosity regarding the composition or the materials used in the manufacturing of the zirconium crowns.

Zirconium crowns are made up of zirconium oxide or zirconia. Zirconia is a white powdered metal which has the ability to be radiopaque in the X-rays. Also, the tooth colour is whiter than other crown treatment options. Here some of the plus points of the zirconia crowns which makes them stand ahead from the regular and traditional crowns.

There is no anaesthetic grey line visibility compared to that of conventional metal-based ceramic crowns.

2. E-MAX Crowns :

Emax is an all-ceramic system that is based on Lithium disilicate glass and consists of quartz, lithium dioxide, phosphorus oxide, alumina, potassium oxide and trace elements.

Emax based all-ceramic prostheses are rapidly gaining widespread popularity in cosmetic dentistry due to their excellent esthetics, durability, and strength.

The Emax system is mainly indicated for fabrication of crowns and veneers in the anterior region.

Many times, it is difficult to differentiate between the zirconium crowns from the natural teeth. It is recommended to bond the zirconium crowns to the teeth in order to provide a more natural look to the respective teeth.

Less labour intensive

The latest dental technologies can be successfully used in the production of the zirconium crowns. The best part is that a lot of natural teeth is preserved which saves a lot of time in the procedure. Dentist has to do minimum preparation in order to fit the zirconium crowns on the respective teeth.
